Playing the game when dating

25 May

I’m going to venture out on a limb here and say that most people find honesty refreshing.

Most people are tired of hearing the same old lines. Too often, after hours or days of waiting, when the phone finally announces that a message has actually been received, it is a paltry offering along the lines of “Sup” or “How’s it going? But turning texting into a competition of "who cares less" will destroy whatever spark or chemistry you had when you first met.

I knew — or assumed — that this meant I had to date a lot. And, by extension, I also thought that it meant I had to play the game just right.I bought and read many how-to-hook-a-man books and advice columns about the "simplicity" of men versus the "complexity" of women (yes, they do exist.). Our culture puts pressure on all of us to figure out the "right way" to do everything — whether it be the right way to eat, exercise, be productive, or find the partner of our dreams. My thought process: if they are really too busy to set a time to hang, then they do not have time for a relationship. If your text isn’t important enough to deserve a timely response, then they do not actually care — which sucks. Don’t waste valuable time that could be spent doing awesome things, moping around un-awesomely waiting for a text.
